Our Story
MoBoo was born from a simple question parents have asked me for years: "You help educators find great books—why not parents too?"
In the mid-2000s, while leading software development at CLCD (Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database), I realized how much our professional tools—used by schools and libraries worldwide—could help families as well. But at the time, CLCD served only educators and librarians, leaving parents without an easy way to discover books their children would love.
The idea stayed with me. In 2010, I began building a prototype called eKitab (“book” in Farsi)—a platform designed to match children with books that fit their reading level and interests. Though the project paused, the vision never faded.
Around that time, I met Kranthi Gajjala, a talented developer who shared my belief that technology could make reading more engaging for children. We first worked together on another project, CityTrain, designed to help travelers explore cities like locals. While that project didn’t take off, it sparked a strong collaboration and mutual respect. Kranthi later became an integral part of MoBoo’s design and development, helping transform the early eKitab concept into a reality.
After acquiring CLCD in 2011, all the pieces finally came together. Using CLCD’s unparalleled data—millions of curated and award-winning titles—we began developing MoBoo as a personalized, family-centered reading platform. Progress was slow but steady as we bootstrapped development, tested early versions, and refined the experience based on feedback from real families.
By 2022, we launched our MVP pilot version. The lessons we learned shaped MoBoo’s evolution, leading to today’s Version 3—our most advanced release yet. Despite challenges, including the pandemic, we emerged stronger, expanding our free book library and rebuilding MoBoo around what families told us they needed most: safety, simplicity, and smarter personalization.
Today, MoBoo connects parents and children worldwide with books that inspire imagination and confidence. With AI-powered recommendations, read-aloud features, parental controls, and progress tracking, MoBoo helps every child find joy in reading.
After years of work, I can finally say what I’ve always wanted to tell parents:
“We can help YOU help your children fall in love with reading.”
