Our Story

MoBoo began with a simple question parents had asked me for years: “You help educators find great books. Why not families too?”

While leading software development at CLCD, I saw how powerful carefully curated book data could be. Schools and libraries had access to professional tools for finding the right books, but families did not. That gap stayed with me.

In 2010, I began building an early prototype called eKitab, inspired by the idea that readers should be able to discover books that truly match their level, interests, and curiosity. The project paused, but the vision did not.

Along the way, I met Kranthi Gajjala, a gifted developer who shared my belief that technology could make reading more accessible, engaging, and meaningful. Over time, that shared belief helped shape what MoBoo would become.

After acquiring CLCD in 2011, the foundation was finally in place. With access to CLCD’s deep book knowledge, curated reviews, and award-rich metadata, we began building MoBoo as a smarter reading platform. We tested, learned, and improved with each version.

By 2022, we launched our MVP pilot. Each release taught us more about what readers wanted most: simplicity, discovery, personalization, and confidence in what to read next.

More recently, we learned something important. Many users, especially older teens and young adults, were not only coming to MoBoo as part of a family reading journey. They were coming to discover books for themselves.

Version 4 reflects that evolution.

Today, MoBoo supports both parents helping children grow as readers and individual readers building their own lifelong relationship with books. With AI-powered recommendations, free classics, reading quests, progress tools, and parent controls where needed, MoBoo is designed to meet readers where they are.

After years of work, I’m proud to say this:

MoBoo began as a way to help parents support children’s reading. Today, it also helps individual readers discover books for themselves. That broader mission is shaping everything we build next.
